Access to Harlow Old Town is from Harlow Lock bridge, access to Harlow New Town and shops is a half mile walk from Burnt Mill Lock. Harlow Old Town, which contains several 18th century houses, a Norman chapel at Harlowbury and the site of a Romano-Celtic temple, has been swallowed up by Harlow New Town, set up in 1947 as a balanced area for London's over-spilling population. Frederick Gibberd masterminded the plan and the New Town is now ell known as an important breakthrough in town planning. The Museum of Harlow Muskham Road, off First Avenue.
